Life in the tropics

One of the girls was telling me a story yesterday. It’s one that if you are at all related to Jamaica you might have heard before. Something along the lines of a girl who meets a married man. They get on well, things progress to the point of him moving her out of her area  and putting her up in a nice apartment somewhere (as obviously he wants somewhere more comfortable to come and visit her at).

But what neither of them realise is that Jamaica is so small that the woman he is renting the apartment from is a friend of his wife. And of course she tells the wife about the girl.

So the wife looks through her husband’s cell phone when he is asleep one night and finds the girl’s number. So she starts to call the girl frequently and leave messages cussing her off on her cell phone.

The girl decides this isn’t acceptable and gives her phone to the husband so he can listen to the messages.

The husband is so upset with the way his wife is cussing the girl that he punishes the wife by refusing to eat the food she cooks anymore. As the girl who was telling me the story said, that will teach her.

My questions are:

1. Why do the wives in these stories always cuss the girl? Cuss the man for once!

2. The man is upset with his wife for cussing the girl so punishes her. The wife on the other hand doesn’t do anything to the husband who has cheated on her (and is still doing so) and embarassed her big time. What?

3. The husband punishes the wife by not eating her food. Why is that punishment? If I was the wife, I’d so never cook for him again?!

Ah boy, life in the tropics!

Kind of answered your own question there. Surely I don’t need to explain?

Yep, they’re all avoiding the real issues here. Wife cusses girlfriend and as far as she is concerned, that’s good enough. Girlfriend now knows the man is married [if she didn’t know before], and is staying with him. And hubby…well, he’s getting what he wants. Haha, maybe he’s too scared to eat what the wife cooks, she might poison him.

I guess we have gotten used to the idea of the man always having another woman and that the woman should be the one who turns him away.

I believe the thinking must be t hat the outside woman is a home wrecker or something so she derserves a cussin, and that men are weak, there eyes always wandering. Twisted thinking, but so it goes.

I know that the scenario just laid out isn’t specifically only a Jamaican one, but it is tolerated way too much subconsciously by our society. Unfortunately, a woman – depending on her level of security in herself – is way more likely to put up with some really rotten things from a man as an act of preservation even though all indicators point to the opposite. The last thing that should be advocated is any violence which usually the normal course of action whenever we hear of things like this.

In patois, “Di ooman shoulda did leff him long time!!!! A weh di bumbo…cho!”

YUMMY COOK FOR THE COOK. Characters .
    Tom Hubby
    His Wife
    Good Cook

Wifey hired a cook, and it was the hook to fish back home her crook. This cook was very nice, indeed her boobs tasted of rice and her bum was teasing Tom.

    -Precious, this dish is delicious-
-Thank you, sir-, smiled the cook, waving her bum and offering rhum.
And the man said himself – I should repent and save the lover’s rent.
And while wifey bounces a ball, hubby stays caged for good and all.

I think it is so low for the wife to call the girl. That is just so catty and immature and adding to the whole drama of the situation. Deal with the man.

Any wife call me bout dem man going to get it properly. When I done cus.

It seems everybody is posting about this so … I’m gonna do it too!!!

Careful, CD! Next thing you cuss her and she put on a royal beating on you, in public too 😉 Next thing it all mek the Jamaica Star. You see, its far better to admit that you’re in the wrong and just back off. What God has joined, let no man (or woman) put asunder.

why wifes put up with crap like that i dont know.

the thing is though, i have always thought to myself that god forbid i should get married and my husband has sex with another woman, what would i do. and somehow i havent quite decided if i would leave.

depends on if he had an emotional connection with her….if it’s just sex and he uses protection, i dunno.

also probably would depend on how low my self esteem was at the time. low would mean i would feel like i deserved it, or that i am not good enough to get a faithful man.

but i dont want to have to grapple with those things. so i just nah go get married. shack up…maybe. married. NOPE.

Yamfoot – I think i’m with you. For me, it not just that he cheated, but that he is having a long-term sexual AND emotional relationship with the other girl. To which I say, divorce him and take all his money!

  • 14. madbull  |  December 18, 2006 at 8:36 pm

What I don’t get is this… what right do you really have to his money? If you had a child, then maybe child support, and if you aren’t employed, a little help for you, but whats this half rubbish? C’mon! Oonoo equal or wah?
