Modernisation?

I had to go to the NHT this week and got to use their new car park. Now this new car park is a fancy foreign-looking multi-story thing, complete with the fancy foreign entry and exit system. You know the type – one with a button to press and get a ticket to enter and exit. Designed to save on staff costs as it is automated.

Well, this labour saving devise currently has 4 people stationed there all day to operate it. You drive up and see the really big sign saying push button to get ticket to enter. And then you see a big sign beside the button saying push here. So I wind down my window to push the button. Uh-uh, not right. There is a man there to push the button for you and hand you the ticket. You are not allowed to push the button yourself.

Then coming out, there is a lady in a booth to take money or check your stamp on the ticket. I guess we haven’t reached the automated money bit yet. But you can’t just hand it to her, oh no. There is a man standing there to take the ticket and hand it to her. And finally, there is another man standing by the exit, just to keep an eye on it all. I guess he is the supervisor.

So installing this fancy labour saving system has resulted in replacing the one person giving out and collecting tickets with four people to help. I wonder if this is because it is new – but I somehow think that all four will be there for a long time…

On another note – off to Negril for the weekend!!!

Wow. That’s just taking job efficiency to the next level!

LOVE Negril! Wish I was there now that the temperature is plummetting in Toronto.

    How painfully ineffective and pointless.

Tell me you making this up, tell me!

I can believe it here, but not Jamaica.

In some of our stores there are more people to sell you one item than there are buyers.

Ohh, Negril! Is it still rustic? Or is it like foreign now?

I wish I was going to Negril too! Anyway, interesting re the parking lot. They set up an automatic gate on the parking lots at the airport over here, now they have a woman who stands around to assist you with getting your tickets paid and to open the gate when it malfunctions. It malfunctions a lot, and its not all that simple to operate the cash payment thing, IMHO.

I haven’t been to Negril in a while. Enjoy for the both of us.

That sounds like a typical J’ca project. Pointless, ineffective yet supposed to be more efficient. When will we get it right?

Oh gosh, my fave place in Ja. GG, it’s not too rustic and it’s still not looking like Mobay/Ochy. Well that was when I was there 5 years ago. Oh I miss it.
