Recycling
This country is too small. I know I’ve said that before, but there is another example of it today. In today’s observer, there is an article on 8 high-acheiving men under 40. You know, the kind of man that really us girls should be going after.
It seems that several of my friends have recognised their potential in advance of the article as the majority of them are ex’s of one of my friends or another.
Which brings me to an important question. I’ve always said that my friends’ ex’s are off limits to me. But in a country where the pool of eligble men seems so small, is it really right to place them off limit if by doing so you leave yourself with no options at all?! Do we really want to prevent one of our group from getting a ‘highly eligible man’?
Fortunately this is a hypothetical question for me as I’m not looking. But for my friends who are, what are they supposed to do? I think we need to introduce a grading system… they get marks depending on how close the friend is to you and how close she was to him.
For example, the first man my good good friend loved – definitely off limits. But someone another less close friend had a short fling with is ready to be recycled.
What do you think?!
On a completely different note, does anyone know what words trigger spam comments? Some posts get no spam at all and others get hundreds. And when I get hundreds, I can’t be bothered to check through them so they are all deleted. So sorry if yours is in there, but really, I’m not going to look through 300 ads for viagra just in case!

You know you’ve worked for the government too long when…
I found myself in a meeting today saying the following:
1. As you are aware, Directors only talk to Directors, Officers talk to Officers
2. Surely you know the protocol involved in this?
3. Well, as civil servants, we all know that what the Minister wants is what happens.
4. I will address that issue when you send me a memo stating the relevant facts.
I will know when it is time to move on when I stop feeling comfortable in my open-toed shoes, start to wear itchy suits and begin refusing to answer to my first name!

Exploring
This weekend was Easter – a well needed break from reality and the office. I decided against staying out of town for the weekend, too much things going on in my life that I had to stay in town for. However, I compromised with day trips.
Friday was a girl’s trip to Portland. I would show the pictures from that day but I might get killed by my friends. So instead, these are from my trip to Portland the previous week – the first is Blue Lagoon which I hadn’t been to in years. It’s been shut for ages but now Micheal Lee Chin has bought it so who knows what will happen there… The second is of the Errol Flynn Marina in Port Antonio, I love that place – I just need to win the lotto so I can have a boat there!
And then on Monday, I decided to drag the man on an adventure in the hills. Someone had told me that supposedly Chincona gardens are very nice. And that you can get there without too much difficulty. Well, he has a 4-whell drive so off we went. We turned off the main road (the road with bits missing on a steep hillside) and onto a less major road (one without tarmac) and then onto one that really is a track…

And eventually we reached the gardens without too many scratches on his car… And the gardens were beautiful otherwise I’d have been in big trouble. And I proved my domesticity by making us a lovely picnic to eat there!

And then we had fun on the way from the gardens as the roads didn’t get any better. We’d decided to attempt a circular route as we were aiming for a guest house to spend the night in. Things got very interesting when we met a car going the other way

I laughed a lot after we had finally reversed far enough so that they could pass us on the small patch of flat land we foudn and we saw that the car had in a guy and his girlfriend. Obviously she and I had had the same plan – take our men out for a nice day – without really knowing what we were getting into. All I have to say is that my man obviously loves me to follow me in my mad schemes and I guess her man is the same!
But it was a very pretty day, and reminded me how lucky we are to live in a country with so much variety – I love the hills.

At the end of the day, we made it to our destination – Star Light Chalets and it was definitely worth it. The place was so quiet and peaceful that we spent the evening listening to the river with a bottle of wine. Only an hour from Kingston on the ‘direct’ route, but a different world.

Highly recommended for anyone in need of a break!

:-) / :-(
I was feeling down this morning, something about heading to work on a beautiful sunny day when I would much rather be heading to the beach.
But since then…
- I have had my first cappucino muffin for the year! They are seriously sinful and seriously good
- I got a call from my friend who has just got home – she’s working in Africa at the moment and is back for 2 weeks of partying over Easter
- The internet returned to the office so finally I could find all the emails that people had been telling me they’ve sent for the last week
- I got a call saying that I the tiling is finished in my new house and the bathroom should be in in the next few days so things are moving
- And I remembered that this weekend is Easter so I get a nice break!
So put all of that together, and a smile reappeared on my face.
I just hope that the smile can survive at least until the end of the day…
